Mona Pendleton | Saturday, July 4, 2015 @ 10:51 AM | , , ,

Hi there! Happy 4th of July to all my blogging friends who celebrate! It's time for Prima's monthly Build A Page sketch challenge and this month I'm joining along as an official Prima Design Team Member! Yipeee! In case you are not familiar with the Prima monthly challenges, there are just two simple rules: 1. Use as much Prima as possible (and only Prima flowers please!) 2. Enter before midnight on the last day of the month! You have ALL month to play!
I decided to show my patriotic spirit and create a mixed media layout in celebration of the 4th of July!
I started with a pretty piece of paper from the Epiphany collection:
I applied a nearly a solid coat of White Crackle Texture Paste then allowed it to dry and works it's magic. Additional design and texture was applied using stamps, embossing powder, white gesso and the floral petites stencil:
I trimmed and framed a small photo of the Statue of Liberty that was taken several years ago when we were visiting NYC:
USA was spelled out using Heavy Black Gesso along with the Alphabet stencil:
I embellished with the following: die cut stars that I added texture to using a crimping tool:
A trio of stamped / fussy cut butterflies and of course a variety of Prima flowers:

I'm entering this layout in the following challenges: For colour inspiration, I joined along with the current ColourQ colour challenge:
Stamps and Stencils challenge where the theme is Happy Holidays
~ The Mixed Media Monthly Challenge where the theme is Summer Days (a summer day celebrating the 4th of July!)

be still...A ColourArte Tutorial 21

Mona Pendleton | Wednesday, July 1, 2015 @ 11:00 PM | , , , ,

Hi there! I hope you are having a great week! It's my turn to share a project along with a step by step tutorial on the ColourArte blog today. I would be delighted if you were to stop by and check out my project here: ColourArte blog.
Here's a sneak peek:

Please feel free to take a moment to visit the ColourArte blog and absorb all the amazing DT inspiration!

I also have some exciting news to share ~ today, I am sharing a project as a Guest Designer on the fabulous Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog:
This current challenge theme is all about: "Something to say..."- there are so many fabulous quotes and sayings now available for use on our projects. Whether you stamp it, print it, write it or die cut it, make your sentiment the main focus of attention on your vintage or shabby chic entries.
While focusing on the challenge theme "Something to say", I was inspired to create a shabby mixed media card featuring a die cut sentiment ~ the powerful one word ~ believe.
The world can be quite a chaotic place and it's so easy to get caught up in all the mayhem. Reminding a loved one or a complete stranger to believe may provide the small dose of hope and encouragement they need.
I started with plain watercolor paper which I transformed using a stencil, modeling paste, ColourArte Silks Acrylic Glaze: Sunburst and Silver Bells, stamps and embossing powder. I embellished with a beautiful chipboard heart from Gina's Designs which I covered with a crackle paste and an application of ColourArte Silks Acrylic Glaze: Silver Bells. I completed the card with a variety of Prima flowers and a Prima resin cherub:
For color inspiration, I joined along with the current Card Concept challenge:
For sketch inspiration, I joined along with this week's MOJO Monday sketch challenge:
Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you enjoy my sample for the "Something to say" challenge and I look forward to seeing what you create! Many thanks to Linda, Sue and the wildly creative DT for inviting me to share my creativity on the fabulous Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog today. I'm very honored and grateful for the wonderful opportunity. Please be sure to visit the Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog (click HERE) to see all the beautiful DT samples!

thinking of you 39

Mona Pendleton | Monday, June 29, 2015 @ 2:47 AM | , ,

Hi there! Today I have a super cute project to share that my sweet daughter Angie made and gifted to me for recently celebrated birthday. Angie is a talented artist and one of her mediums is welding. She made this sweet girl for me using various trinkets and treasures that she has collected from the metal scrap yard and thrift stores. She sits beautifully in my craft room :)
I also have a card to share featuring a trio of fun stamped teacups on a mixed media background.
I inked up one of the pretty PTI teacups stamps, spritzed with water then stamped on a die cut coordinating tea cup that was cut using a watercolor paper. The background was created using a MFT stencil, Prima Matte Gel along with a piece of watercolor paper. Once dry, I added color by randomly dragging ink pads across the paper.
I'm entering the card in the following challenges:
For sketch inspiration, I joined along with the retro sketches sketch challenge:
The Friday Mashup! challenge ~ create a project with "3 elements on it"
and the Try it on Tuesday challenge ~ "Tea Cups or....Mugs".

Thanks so much for visiting ~ I hope you have a great day / evening!
Be Sweet :)
